Farao – Till it’s all forgotten

I can not remember having felt this way listening to a record since I was maybe 16 – 17 years old. Farao has created a master piece which stands out as maybe this years best album from a Norwegian artist. The album starts off full of intricate rhythms and lovely melodies – and when you think this can not possibly be any better the second song “Bodies” sends you on another even more lovely trip. Each time I listen to the album another track becomes my new favourite. The song “Maze” is a lovely jazzy track. “Feel” is yet another rhythmic and experimental revelation. When I was young I had all the time in the world to listen through albums again and again – finding hidden gems in complex albums. Farao sends me back in time and into that state where every song is new and fresh and sounding like nothing else – and I love it.

Wire – 154

Released in September 1979, the album “154” really shows how far Wire had come in barely two years. “Pink Flag” released in December 1977, a punk classic and “Chairs Missing” released August 1978 an attempt to create the perfect pop music shows a near unprecedented musical development, both in instrumental aptness and style, from rough punk to experimental art-pop. In my opinion “154” is an album you should listen to before you can call yourself a culturally educated human being.

Wand

Another band that took me by surprise at the Pstereo festival was Wand from Los Angeles, USA. They took us from the softest breeze to the sickest noise in a wink. Sounding like the first Pink Floyd outfit in one minute and as Dinosaur Jr. the next. The vocals bridging the two the rest of the time. Psychedelia extravaganza from start til end. I could not help smiling and banging my head for the entire concert. Amazing!

Formation

Formation was a really pleasant surprise at the Pstereo festival in Trondheim this year. Obviously inspired by funk and kraut rock the music made me want do dance all night. Adding to this that the band expressed their joy of playing for us it created a great atmosphere. Highly recommended!
